Last illustration for my Calligraphy Project. This one just seemed like a good one to end on. This is based off of Pink Floyd's album (I just decided to go for an album, instead of a song on this one) "The Wall".
I'm actually really proud of how that sunset came out. I wanted to do a sunset that would look like a sunset that you would actually see when driving down the highway... not one of those horrifically cheesy sunsets that you see on brochures about vacations in the Bahamas or something. And it looks convincing enough.
Though I am no expert in history, I am a bit of a history-lover and I wanted to allude a little bit to the well-known photograph of the Berlin Wall being torn down, where one guy was standing on top of the wall waving the "Victory" hand signal, which is sort of what Reynard is doing right now (for those of you who probably don't know what I'm talking about, just disregard the latter paragraph).
The shadows against the wall itself are kind of weird, but on the characters themselves they're great. The sky looks spectacularly realistic, and while it contrasts a bit strangely with the foregrounds, it still makes me wish I did colours. And backgrounds. And damn me, but I've permanently associated the v-sign with Spy vs. Spy and crappy animu.
I know. For some reason I couldn't get the stupid shadows right... and by the time I started to get to the wall ADD and restlessness started to set in, which NEVER helps.
Thanks. I looked up a bunch of sunset references on Google.
I nearly crapped myself with excitement when you mentioned Spy vs. Spy. As obvious or as not-so-obvious as it may seem... that cartoon influenced my cartooning a fair amount. And it's always exciting to see that other people actually KNOW of it (being a fairly old cartoon and all). So... by crappy "animu" do you mean crappy anime?

I know what you mean. The references definitely worked, though.
Oh how I long for the good old days where you could have a comic entirely about two characters killing each other... I'm waiting on a copy of the Collected Case-Files as we type, actually. And I didn't realize before, but I can see the influence in how you draw Reynard's clothes (Or black things in general), and his boots.

Yeah. Apparently it's pretty ubiquitous in Japan, though. ("Japandering" warning--click at own risk.)

I have a copy, but I got mine a while. I don't know if bookstores carry them anymore.
... I really don't know what to think of that... I'm slightly frightened.

The image of a shorts-wearing Arnold Schwartzenegger coming after you on a tricycle will haunt you forever.
