I wanted an opinion on something. I occasionally get these wild hairs and want to do something different with my comic strip. I do want to do something that would allow me to be able to do slice-of-life stories (which is what it's seems I'm tending to lean towards now) and more fantastical stories. Yes, I would like to have my cake and eat it too. But the way the comic seems to be developing, it lends itself more to slice-of-life stories, and anything more too fantastical would disrupt the whole feel of the comic. I've heard of webcomics, where basically it starts out as simple slice-of-life and then suddenly partway throughout the series, "HOLY SHIT! ALIENS ARE STATING TO ATTACK!" and the audience who has been built up around what would be a slice-of-life comic are sitting there going "Dude! What the hell?"
I don't want to do that.
So... as awfully stupid as this may sound (and hey... sometimes good ideas sound stupid when said in a nutshell, but turn out good if handled well), but I am playing around with the idea of changing the setting to the future. What I was thinking of doing was something that would basically be roughly in the vein of Futurama... slice-of-life and fantastical stories mixed together and that is a comedy (although I wouldn't do the overt pop culture references, because that's not my bag of tricks.)
The idea is that Reynard and Edgar (and any other "furries") would be simply products of evolution. Certain animals evolved to have more humanlike traits and intelligence, while other animals would just remain as normal animals (yes... yes... How very pseudo-science of me).
And yes... there would be humans (Oh shit guise... OH SHIT!), but I don't want to pull that Gene Catlow/other furry comics crap where "FURRIES= GOOD/ HYOOMANS= BAAAAAAAAAAD! D:" I just want the two to be co-existing in roughly the way... I dunno... people of different races would co-exist today. Some humans/furries would be prejudiced against the integration, but many of them would just accept it as normal life and then move on.
And I'm thinking of doing it more in a "comic book" format in terms of panel arrangement and such (as opposed to a normal, 4-panel comic).
So... tell me what you think, if you'd like. If you like it or think it'll work please give me valid reasons as to why. Alternatively, if you don't like it or don't think it'll work... please also give me valid reasons as to why it wouldn't work. I generally like some objective viewpoints for this, because they'll probably spot flaws that I don't notice since I'm too attached to the subject matter.
