Among Crappy Music Videos

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 15, 2008, 12:37 AM
... you always find the occasional amazing one.

It's Johnny Cash's music video for his cover of "Hurt". It is absoultely amazing. [link]

And yeah... I know that what he did was a cover of the Nine Inch Nail original, but I've heard both versions, and I really do love the Cash version better.
He makes the song his own and brings it to an entirely different level. And there's a definite poignancy that is added, especially since he re-made it right before he died.

The song (and especially watching the music video to go with it) always makes me want to do some sort of artwork reflecting those feelings, but I refrain... because I'm afraid anything I'd do would end up being stupidly emo.
I'd rather do no work based off of the song, then make crap based off of it.

WHAT THE HELL?!

My distrust and dislike for abrupt changes is making me glare at my computer screen now.
I was perfectly content with DA before and then BAM! I log in and everything has drastically changed. It may grow on me, but for right now it's new and I don't like it.

Oh well.... at least they got the mood icons working again.

Well... these past few days have been fun. I've been dealing with stupidly horrific and (and I've been told rather unnecessary) insecurities about my art. It seems as though every little thing is triggering them too. (How ironic that my journal mood icon is stuck on "Excited") I'll probably get over it eventually. I might be on the upswing now.

On another (and better note) I'm looking into this website called "comicgenesis.com" for hosting my comic strip. If anyone has heard anything good or bad about that site, please let me know.
Also, I'm open to other suggests for sites to host my comic strip.

Lol Bears!

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 29, 2008, 11:26 PM
I'm so excited! I finally got one of my favorite movies on DVD. It's Grizzly Man.... an indie documentary (which explains as to why I probably didn't see it that much on DVD. It's one of those DVDs where you wouldn't find it if you weren't actively looking for it).

It's basically about this guy named Timothy Treadwell, a guy who literally lived with Grizzly bears on monthly expeditions he took to Alaska. Some look at the documentary as being like an examination of a wildlife preservationist, conservationist, and advocate for the bears... but what's more fascinating about the documentary for me is that it clearly shows a man who is steadily descending into an increasingly delusional existence. He completely loses touch with reality.

Most of the film is comprised of Treadwell's own footage, and sprinkled with interviews with people who knew him. In his footage though, Treadwell gets really up close to the bears. He tries to actually pet them. XP He anthropomorphizes them to the extreme... seeing them as his close and personal friends (despite the fact that it's quite obvious that the bears could care less what he was saying to them). He starts becoming more and more paranoid, seeing practically everyone, including the park service, as just being out to get him and to hurt "his" bears.... and a whole bunch of other crazy stuff.

It is probably one of the most fascinating documentaries I have ever seen. Plus he captures some interesting footage of the wildlife and landscape in general. There's some insane footage of two bears fighting, which gives you some respect for just freakin' powerful these animals are.

Yes... I just wanted to babble on about that movie... BECAUSE IT'S AMAZING!

Also... I sprung for the collector's 2-disc DVD of Sweeny Todd, because I'm a stupid sucker for special features and "Makings of's".

Engrish!

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 25, 2008, 12:53 PM
My mother recently went to Seattle to visit my sister and brother-in-law, and she brought back these magnets, one large magnet featuring the Oriental Lucky Cat (I've heard the Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans all claim to be the originators of the Lucky Cat, so who knows?) and several smaller magnets with the words and phrases.
The description on the back of the package, though, was the best.

"Inside find Lucky Cat magnet also many word magnet for become good fortune. Stick to refrigeration or any steel being. Arrange word for now you lucky!"

P.S. According to DA's inability to change the "moods" part of the journal, I'm really excited about Engrish. XP
