I'm so excited! I finally got one of my favorite movies on DVD. It's Grizzly Man.... an indie documentary (which explains as to why I probably didn't see it that much on DVD. It's one of those DVDs where you wouldn't find it if you weren't actively looking for it).
It's basically about this guy named Timothy Treadwell, a guy who literally lived with Grizzly bears on monthly expeditions he took to Alaska. Some look at the documentary as being like an examination of a wildlife preservationist, conservationist, and advocate for the bears... but what's more fascinating about the documentary for me is that it clearly shows a man who is steadily descending into an increasingly delusional existence. He completely loses touch with reality.
Most of the film is comprised of Treadwell's own footage, and sprinkled with interviews with people who knew him. In his footage though, Treadwell gets really up close to the bears. He tries to actually pet them. XP He anthropomorphizes them to the extreme... seeing them as his close and personal friends (despite the fact that it's quite obvious that the bears could care less what he was saying to them). He starts becoming more and more paranoid, seeing practically everyone, including the park service, as just being out to get him and to hurt "his" bears.... and a whole bunch of other crazy stuff.
It is probably one of the most fascinating documentaries I have ever seen. Plus he captures some interesting footage of the wildlife and landscape in general. There's some insane footage of two bears fighting, which gives you some respect for just freakin' powerful these animals are.
Yes... I just wanted to babble on about that movie... BECAUSE IT'S AMAZING!
Also... I sprung for the collector's 2-disc DVD of Sweeny Todd, because I'm a stupid sucker for special features and "Makings of's".
