Hope this won't come off as egotistical...

But I just have a question out of artistic curiosity. Sometimes an artist will make art and since they're so close to their artwork, they don't realize certain qualities about it that the objective viewer may notice. For instance, when I first started posting stuff on DA (a long time ago), I didn't really think of my art as being that "dark". Then I got people, though, who were telling me "Hey! I like your stuff! It's dark!". Also when you get people named "xx_bloodydeathreigns_xx" and "highdemonpriestess666" faving your stuff... you know something's up.

So I guess what I'm asking is how would you describe my work. I would just like to hear a description from people who have a more objective viewpoint than I do.
I'm just really curious for some reason and I want to see if how similar/different the way I view my work is from the way other people view my work.

Also note... I really would appreciate it if you refrained form saying stuff like "good", "awesome", "crap" (I would especially appreciate it if you stayed away from that one). I don't want this to become a big "Stroke My Ego and Fishing For Compliments" fest.
Just general descriptions instead of anything that indicates quality of work.

  • Mood: Hungry
  • Listening to: Nothing
  • Reading: Sandman
  • Watching: I was watching something on Vampires
  • Playing: Silent Hill 5...

hmm..difficult, but..I'll give it a whack.
darkly cute, with just a tiny hint of edward gorey. Flowing lines, and lovely forms.
there. I think that'll do it.

I guess the best way to classify your art would be by saying that it is surreal.

I mean, it touches on other themes (Dark, silly, whatever it may be) but the undercurrent of all of it is that it is just all verry surreal. The odd, exagerated bodies and faces (Good though!) of your characters, the spindly limbs. At it's very best, it's like ooking into a alien world of some type.

But then, that's just me. Who knows?

It has a very macabre feel. It is a little dark and/ or twisted, however your art is very expressive. It feels like you take simple emotions and make them EXPLODE! Huge grins filled with sharp teeth, characters bending in all sorts of different manners, they all become extremely loud about how they feel, from disappointment to joy, sadness to stark terror. I think that's what also lends strength to what you draw. It makes them almost believable in their own way.

I don't consider your art that dark.
:x 'Course, my views on whats dark and what isn't might be a bit on the skewed.

no but
i'm not sure HRRMMM its too late for me to be coherent but ive never thought of your art, as a whole, as particularly dark. very stylized, lanky, deliciousness. and yet you also have the ability to do more realistic proportions and such. for some reason when i think of your art i think back to the first thing i ever saw from you and it was kinda...well not bright but.. colour and fun looking.
i bet dumb kids are just like omg DARK because you draw really lanky usually and lanky = people thinking of nightmare before christmas = CREEPYYYYYyyy omgggg so cool

Okay, basically I'm thinking your art is what everyone above me described it as.

Surreal and psychologically in-touch, dreamlike, silly, dark, weird, creative, just... all that stuff.

Okay, I contributed my share of ideas. Goodnight<3

Surreal. Or in a way very much like John Connolly. If you have ever read his books, and I'm talking about one in particular: "The book of lost things" He takes normal feelings and emotions and story types but he portrays it in a way that is slightly off. Slightly, well yea on the dark side. But not necessarily dark as in evil but dark as in a way of thinking that not everyone can really do. Brothers Grimm. Their folk and fairy tails is very much like the art you do.

You're doing art from a very rare perspective. A point of view and way of thinking that not many people posses. So keep up the good work!
